Keep Doing It Till You Get Right

I have to say that I make the most awesome baking soda biscuits.  No, they weren't always awesome but something kept me going until I can pretty much make them in my sleep.  Funny thing is... my mom couldn't  make them  if her life depended on it and I even gave her my recipe!!  I'm not sure what she did to mess them up but we used to laugh about the fact that there was something that I could cook/bake that she couldn't lol!  So, go out and find one thing to master!!

My Day So Far... Time to go for a walk and then I think that I will peruse an old cookbook for some new recipes to try this week. I hate using the same recipes over and over again!!

I think that I began to love quotes when I began to thumb through my mom's Women's Day magazines. They always devoted an entire page to quotes that were sent in by their readers. They were so thought provoking. I always looked forward to reading them.

Dec 29... Today's Snack... Not Healthy Just In Case You Are Wondering ;)

I have been  holding off on my sugar intake today so that I can indulge in some eggnog this afternoon. That means no biscuits with my coffee!!!  I can't believe that no one else in the family likes it!!  I can't understand what there is not to like and the spiked eggnog is even better... especially the one with Brandy. Not overly keen of the bottle with Rum in the recipe, but brandy is awesome!  So much for a healthy snack... yeah I will admit it, but it's Christmas!!

Friday

Lunch Menu for Dec 28

Grilled Cheese sandwiches with crumbled bacon!  And we paired it up with tomato soup. Doesn't get much better than that!!  And while we are talking about grilled cheese, I wonder how other people make theirs?  I have had it with powdered sugar... still can't understand why anyone would put sugar on a sandwich, but maybe it's tradition.  My daughter always fancies our us with different herbs. I wonder just how many different toppings that could possibly be used??

Wednesday

Morning Snack for Dec 26

By eleven a.m. I was ready for a snack and I chose a mixture of plain and strawberry yogurt... can't stand plain yogurt but I'm definitely cutting back on the sweet version. I also added 2 teaspoons of sunflower seeds.  I really need to add a piece of fruit but the yogurt was as much as I could manage. I will have to be sure to add the fruit at lunch.
We have bananas and tangerines so I should easily be able to get in my two servings by the end of the day!

Sunday

The Old Stand-By for Lunch

Yesterday no one felt like making lunch so I made a pot of plain oatmeal and tossed in couple a sachets of Apple and Cinnamon Oatmeal. It actually tasted not half bad! I even chopped a few walnuts into the mixture for good measure!!  I now how enough for a couple of snacks too if I really don't feel like even thinking up a snack lol!

How can you go wrong with oatmeal for lunch...

Update... be sure to stock up on the sachets... When I'm making Apple Crisp I sprinkle the top with the recipe's topping and then I add a sachet on top of that!

Really Quick Recipes

From our garden...

If you love apple pies, we found that by combining the dwarf apples along with the crab apples, the end product is an awesome tart flavour that is perfect with ice cream or hot custard.  We tend to flip back and forth between apple pies and apple crisp, depending on our moods.
ps... try juicing the crab apples. Amazing alone or mixed with sparkling water.

The raspberries are plentiful throughout July. Chances are, you will have a hard time keeping up with them. We had no idea that a few raspberries bushes could produce soooo much fruit! Throw some into a bowl, top with vanilla ice cream and you are done!

The strawberries are in their second year and are producing 2x the fruit from last year.  And then we move :(  This spring, I will just have to plant the same variety. They produce fruit right up until frost!

The rhubarb is still in it's baby stage, but I would imagine will take off next year.  Is there anything you can't make with rhubarb??

The wild plums should be ripening nicely early September. We harvested quite a few and made enough preserves to last us the entire winter.

Wednesday

Lunch Menu For Today Dec 19th!

We are home again so no eating out for us today.

Egg Salad Sandwich... but here's  a version you might have never tried. I mash the egg up with mustard and relish instead of mayonnaise today...   I get bored easily with the same old, same old. ;)  As for sides, I had carrots sticks and cheese doodles.  Not quite as good as eating out but I haven't had egg salad in a while so it was a nice change!
Ice water as the beverage

No idea about dinner yet. Will have to see what hubby comes up with.
