Tuesday's Tip

There are some really pretty oven mitts and potholders out there, but they are mostly for display purposes. How many times have you burnt yourself taking a dish out of the oven? Look for well padded mitts or pot holders. They will cost a bit more, but your poor hands will thank you!

Do you have as many odd glasses as I do??

Is there anything more annoying than suddenly having the entire family over for dinner and suddenly noticing that you don't have enough glasses to set the table so that they all match? It's just one of those things that you never notice, until its too late. I don't know how glasses get broken and not noticed, but take a look at your cupboard. How many odd glasses are in there?

It just makes sense to buy a set of 12... that should give you lots to play with right?? That's just one last thing to worry about. Burning dinner is higher on the list lol...

Money Saving Tip- Using a breadmaker

Today's Old Fashion Kitchen

That doesn't even seem like our lives anymore does it? There simply doesn't seem the time any more. Our lives are just too hectic!

I've burned through about four bread makers so far

That might have sounded bad when you first read it, but when you realize that we use our bread maker several times a week. And bread isn't the only thing that I have made in it. I have made everything from breakfast to desserts in it. I don't know how I managed so long with out one.

And you can make the size of loaf you need... in case you didn't know. Our family goes through bread like there's no tomorrow, so we make the largest loaf possible, but if there is only one of you, there is a little loaf that you can whip up and no mess... did I mention that part??

Is There Any Teflon Left on your Frying Pan

The reason I'm asking is the fact that I think that we have scratched it all off over the years. It's either... replace it, or maybe go for good old cast iron frying pan that our grandparents once used.

Monday

Did you check the oven??

Be sure to look inside the oven before you pre-heat it. It's quite a mess to try to clean a pan with baked on food from last night's dinner.

How to Make French Toast

Now wouldn't this be perfect for a weekend breakfast and it doesn't seem all that difficult!

How to Make a Simple Pie Crust

Ingredients

1 1/4 cup flour
3/4 cup cold butter
3/4 teaspoon salt
ice water

Directions:

1. Measure the flower into the bowl and then add the cold butter that you have already cut into chunks. Add salt and then blend all together until it resembles crumbs. A pastry blender probably will be easier but you can use two knives. Kind of messy though ;)

2. The next step is to begin adding the cold water... just a little at a time until your dough begins to form. Knead it a few times (you don't water the butter to melt. Flatten into a disk and wrap in plastic wrap. Store in the freezer for about 15 minutes if you plan on baking your pie that afternoon. Pie dough can be left in the freezer for a month, but I find that it dries out. Could be me ;) but I like fresh pie dough to work with.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Cheese

6 chicken breasts (boneless and skinless)
salt & pepper to taste
garlic powder, to taste
2 cans cream of chicken soup
1 can cheddar cheese soup

Directions:

Sprinkle, well rinsed chicken breasts with salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste and then top with the undiluted soup that you have mixed together. Turn the setting to low and cook for 6 to 8 hours. Just before serving, pull the chicken apart with two forks and then serve over egg noodles or brown rice. Actually you can use whatever kind of noodles or rice, but this is what we use and I typed it without thinking. :)
